April 22, 2012: Sunday at 4pm on the Piaget field (Main Stadium) the 2011 defending champions, Lechuza Caracas played against Zacara in the 108th USPA 26 goal Nespresso US Open Polo Championships and were defeated by 2 points. Spectators who arrived early enjoyed the rare sight of helicopters drying the polo fields to enable the game to be played, all thanks to Victor Vargas. An attempt at skydivers landing on the field was fouled by high winds as brewing storms continued to threaten the day's event, but Miss America joined the opening ceremonies for the official coin toss which was awarded to Victor Vargas. A closely matched game, both teams were either leading, tied, or behind by one point throughout the game but a very determined Zacara pulled ahead in time to win the 2012 Nespresso US Open Polo Championships 10-8. Mike Azarro for Zacara was named MVP and the mare owned by Lyndon Lea & played by Facundo Pieres was awarded Best Playing Pony.
